Education

In the Cognitive Science in Education program, students examine the cognitive mechanisms that underlie learning and thinking in school and non-school settings.

Disciplines: The curriculum includes cognitive, developmental and educational psychology, and computer science which provide students with a valuable perspective on cognition and learning.

Prepares graduates for:

  • Publishers and software companies looking for people with knowledge of cognition and development, and experience in instructional design.

  • Research organizations seeking people to conduct basic research and work on instructional applications of computers and related technologies.

  • School systems seeking instructional technology coordinators and teachers who are knowledgeable about cognitive and developmental theories and research.

Wack-a mole gogo boards

The assignment consists in using gears, electrical circuits and coding to set up an interactive art display in the theme ‘gardens’. My team mate and I decided to put together a wack-a-mole, assuming most projects would be beautiful, we decided to bring some chaos to the garden.

Soft circuit

Using the microsoft make code adafruit boards, the assignment requires to make an interactive e-textile. We decided to put together a scarf that would make light and sound to indicate openness to connect with people, signal when a connection was made, or present some sort of political idea that could be indicated through the color on the board.

CodeKid

Code kid emerges as a desire to do a curriculum design for kids ages 8-12 to introduce them to coding through e-textiles. The book presents the character Rylie, also disguised as CodeKid, a kid with special interests in helping others in the neighbourhood through coding safety patches. The book asks for the help of the reader to tackle some quests, and aims to create a constructionist environment for the kid to meet computational thinking. Introducing them to the tools that come with the kit and scaffolding into block-coding, electric circuits and self-expression through crafting e-textiles.
